Community Garden Calendar

• Early February – Fundraiser
  • For the past 2 years we have hosted a “seed swap” in early February.  Everything is FREE.  Free seeds, free admission, free information from PSE Master Gardeners, PSE Master Watershed Stewards, Chester County Food Bank, and Jenkins Arboretum. In 2025 the seeds were donated by Home Depot, Frazer, PA.
  • To raise money for our community garden we sell raffle tickets for baskets containing garden related tools, supplies, etc.
  • We also ask for good will donations for our fabulous baked goods.
  • In February 2026, we are going to host an even BIGGER event!

• February – Let the growing begin!

  • We start growing indoors from seeds donated to the seed swap.  

  • We draw out a garden plan.  

• Early May – Spring Clean Up Day

  • Before Mother’s Day all the volunteers are invited to get the garden ready for planting.  

• Mid-May – Planting Day

  • Around Mother’s Day all the  volunteers are invited to help plant the vegetables, flowers, and herbs that are ready for planting.  

• Mid-May to October – Care for the garden while it grows

  • From planting day through the whole growing season we ask volunteers to sign up for a week at a time to weed, water, and prop up plants as needed in the garden.  

• June to October, Monday nights at 5pm – Harvest and Prepare Harvest for Donation

  • The first harvest date depends on when the garden has produce ready to donate.

  • Harvesting is Monday nights starting at 5pm.  If you are late it is not a problem.  We are usually there for more than 1/2 an hour. 

  • We prepare our food for donation by washing all produce and placing it in single serving containers. 

  • The containers are strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, tomato, etc. plastic containers you get at the food store.  These containers are donated by our congregation.  We wash these containers, too.  Containers with lids attached are preferred.

• June to October Tuesdays, 10am to 11am – Donate our produce

  • Great Valley Food Cupboard accepts donations on Tuesdays between 10 am and 11 am.  The GVFC is at the Great Valley Baptist Church which is just 1 mile from UCCVF. 

  • The GVFC provides food to approximately 20 families.  Their families love the fresh produce!

  • Our CG was created 2 growing seasons ago.  Each year we have donated over 200 lbs to the GVFC from our tiny CG.

• October – Fall clean up day
  • The date depends on how long our garden is still creating produce for donation.
  • What we do depends on the plan for each year.
