Thursday Morning Spiritual Life Group

Led by: Beth Eustis

We are currently reading and discussing the Gospel according to Matthew. Matthew’s Gospel is often best known for the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount. We will look at these teachings, the context, the symbols, and more.

Each week we begin with prayer and then read a portion of the scripture passage.  We then we discuss what the story meant in its own time, how it informs our understandings of God, the Israelites, and how these stories can and do form and shape us in our. Come and see!

We are a welcoming, open church family that is very glad to have your children worship and learn with us.  Christian education of our children is an important focus for the church.

The Sunday School curriculum for all ages is centered on God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. All our classes are led by a core of dedicated church members with two adults per class.

In addition to Sunday School, the children are encouraged to participate in the worship experience by volunteering to light the Christ candle, assist with ushering duties and participate in the children’s and youth choirs.

The Sunday school program is organized in the following format:

Infant/toddler – care is available for the entire hour of worship, staffed by a paid caregiver or by a church volunteer. During the summer, there is no caregiver, but the room is open for parents to be with their child, and there is a speaker in the room, so the parent can still listen to the worship service.

Elementary Sunday school – classes for pre-K through 4th grade

Middle school Sunday school – classes for 5th through 8th grade.

Confirmation class – meets once every other year, sometimes once every third year for students in 8th grade and higher.

Each Sunday school lesson, regardless of which age-level, is centered around a Bible story. The themes in that story are then highlighted by the activities and discussions in the class. The elementary and middle school classes are designed to take place within the time frame of the worship service.  All children and youth experience the beginning of the worship service with their family, and after Children’s Sharing Time, midway through the service, the children and youth leave worship for their classes.  Of course, the children and youth are always welcome to remain in worship with their families for the entire service, if desired.

In our faith tradition, most (but not all) youth were baptized as infants or young children, which was a celebration of their inclusion in the Body of Christ.  At that time, parents and the faith community made promises to nurture our children in the Christian faith so that they would be able to “affirm their baptism,” to claim for themselves their continuing journey in Christ.  Confirmation class is one way the church honors our promises to our children, offering an opportunity to deepen their faith and understanding  of God, as well as better equipping them to choose to enter into their own covenants as disciples of Christ and members of the church.

This ministry is usually offered every other year to youth in late Middle School or early High School.  The Pastor has a primary role in leading this class.

The curriculum we use is available below for download.  The lessons are scripture-and Jesus-centered and are adapted from the Christian education resource website: rfour.org.

Please contact the church office if you have any questions or are interested in more information about our Confirmation program.
