Chaos and the Kingdom

Led by: Shannon Mudd

Chaos and the Kingdom is a book written for small groups that highlights the recurring imagery of chaos in six Bible stories. Each chapter of the book includes historical background, a dialogue about the passage, and questions for discussion. As chaos seems to be on the rise in the world and because Michael has been referencing these concepts in worship, we thought now was a good time for this group study. Please consider participating in this engaging, thoughtful 7-week experience.

Wednesday Night Spiritual Life Group

Led by: Pastor Michael Bush

We are currently reading and discussing the book of Exodus. We uncover some of this potency as we look at ancient symbols and metaphors, historical context, and more.

Each week we begin with prayer and then read a portion of the scripture passage.  We then we discuss what the story meant in its own time, how it informs our understandings of God, the Israelites, and how these stories can and do form and shape us in our time. Come and see!

White Privilege: Let's Talk

Led by: Susan Wargo

White Privilege: Lets Talk – A Resource for Transformational Dialogue is an adult curriculum from the UCC that was published in the fall of 2016. Designed to invite church congregations to engage in safe, honest, and meaningful conversations on race, the study is divided into 8 sessions with each session lasting approximately 1.5 hours.

Given the continuing, difficult climate in our country today, this curriculum is timely, valuable and even urgent. Rev. John Dorhauer, General Minister and President of the UCC, who led the effort to develop this curriculum, says about it: “In partnership with a Holy Spirit who envisions a future in which the United Church of Christ matters, and in response to the UCC still being over ninety percent white almost 25 years into our commitment to be a multi-racial and multi-cultural church, I call all covenant settings to engage in a safe, meaningful, substantive and bold conversation on privilege.”
